Geoff began his own 30-year “career in sport” back in 1986 when he left a graduate management position at Cadbury’s to pursue his dream of working for Manchester City Football Club, where he spent 14 seasons driving forward the commercial revenues of the Club.
The late 1980’s witnessed the early rise of significant new commercial income streams in football such as the first official shirt sponsorships and corporate hospitality – Geoff was responsible for new and innovative commercial revenues which helped the Club to see their annual turnover rise 20-fold during his time with MCFC. Geoff also enjoyed the opportunity of being heavily involved in the detailed planning of City’s move from Maine Road to the new Commonwealth Stadium, gaining valuable experience of the commercial and operational elements of stadium planning and design at that time.
In 2000, Geoff moved across the City to take up a similar role with Lancashire County Cricket Club, latterly as Commercial Director at Old Trafford where he remained until 2015. This period co-incided with arguably the greatest challenges, and changes, for the County Club in its history, culminating in the complete re-development of the stadium in order to preserve international and domestic cricket for generations to come, after the Club had faced bankruptcy by losing its status as an international ground. Geoff was a key member of the executive team which oversaw the stadium re-build.
Amongst many commercial successes, including the development of the cricket ground as a major concert venue with a 50k capacity, the highlight for Geoff was leading the negotiations which resulted in a ten-year partnership agreement when Emirates became the venue’s first-ever naming rights partner in 2012. This remains the biggest commercial deal in domestic cricket’s history.
Geoff took up the role of Chief Commercial Officer at Warrington Wolves in January 2017 and continues with CiS in a non-Executive capacity
