Competition Manager

Job Description
A competition manager manages and co-ordinates the planning and implementation of a programme of inter-school competition within a School Sport Partnership (SSP) using the national school competition framework as the basis.

A typical day in a life of a Competition Manager
A typical day for me as a Competition Manager is planning, organising and evaluating competitions that I have delivered or be involved with.

I have to align each school competition with the National Competition Framework. My aims are to try and increase the number of participants or the quality of the event for the future so that more young people get involved in sport.

I also spend a lot of my time talking and meeting with National Governing Bodies, local authorities, Heads of PE, School Sports Coordinators, Partnership Development Manager’s and other relevant organisations.

3 great things about being a Competition Manager

1. Being involved with school sport and working within a whole range of different sports

2. Helping to transform school sport competition locally as part of a National Framework and linking in with colleagues across the country

3. Knowing that through my work you can change the life of a young person for the better, however great or small

3 not so great things about being a Competition Manager

1. You are sometimes stuck in doors doing paperwork when the weather is nice!

2. Having to chase people and schools is fairly time consuming

3. Not being able to have the day to day contact with the same young people and then being able to build a rapport with them

Qualifications recommended you gain

To be a Competition Manager you do require a degree. Since I left college I have worked in school sport and have experienced working in both the primary and secondary sectors. I would suggest if sport is something you are interested in, get yourself qualified in as many different sports as possible and gain the relevant sport qualifications. This will then give you a massive wealth of knowledge and doors will open for you.

Salary range?
£25,000 - £28,000 per annum plus travel and subsistence expenses.
